Brad Arnold, the lead singer of the rock band 3 Doors Down, has revealed that he is battling stage 4 cancer. The 46-year-old musician has been at the helm of the Mississippi-based group since its inception in 1996 and penned their iconic hit “Kryptonite” while still in high school. Through a heartfelt video on the band’s Instagram account, Arnold shared that he recently received some “not so good news.” He explained, “After being unwell a couple of weeks ago, I went to the hospital for a check-up. The results showed I have a clear cell renal carcinoma that has metastasized to my lung—this means it’s at stage four, which is quite serious.” This type of carcinoma is the prevalent form of kidney cancer, and stage 4 signifies the spread of cancer beyond its original site.

Despite the gravity of his condition, Arnold held onto his Christian faith, expressing optimism by saying, “We serve a mighty God, and He can conquer anything. So I have no fear. Truly, I’m not scared of this at all, but unfortunately, it means we have to cancel our summer tour.” The band was set to play at the Welcome to Rockville Festival in Daytona Beach, Florida, next week, as part of their upcoming US summer tour. However, all these scheduled performances have now been called off.

In closing his announcement, Arnold asked fans to keep him in their prayers, quipping, “I think it’s time for me to listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a bit, right? Thank you all immensely. God loves you, and so do we. See you around.” “It’s Not My Time” was released in 2008 as the first track from 3 Doors Down’s self-titled fourth album. Originally composed for the 2006 remake of the disaster film The Poseidon Adventure, the song delves into themes of escaping imminent danger. The band’s debut album, “The Better Life” released in 2000, achieved remarkable success, going platinum seven times. Since then, they’ve put out five more albums. Arnold remains the steadfast and sole original member of the band. A recovering alcoholic as of 2016, he openly discussed his journey to sobriety during the launch of the band’s latest album, “Us and the Night.”
