A 4.1-magnitude earthquake shook Tennessee on Saturday morning, with tremors reaching as distant as Atlanta and western North Carolina. The U.S. Geological Survey pinpointed the quake occurring shortly after 9 a.m. ET near Greenback, Tennessee—approximately 30 miles south of Knoxville and around 125 miles northeast of Atlanta. Reports of the tremors were also made by news outlets in Georgia and North Carolina.
FOX 5 Atlanta meteorologist Alex Forbes mentioned the possibility of aftershocks, although he noted that Atlanta is unlikely to feel them. Currently, there are no reports of damage or injuries, which is typical as earthquakes of this size generally do not cause harm. While such seismic events are regular in the area, the Eastern Tennessee seismic zone is notably one of the most active in the Southeast, covering parts of Tennessee, Georgia, and Alabama.
