As Kyle Juszczyk made his way to the bus after the San Francisco 49ers’ 2024 season concluded, uncertainty about his future surrounded him. His hunch about playing his last match as a Niner turned out to be correct. On Monday night, the 49ers confirmed to ESPN’s Adam Schefter that they were releasing Juszczyk. Despite this, the 33-year-old fullback remains determined to continue his NFL career into 2025, regardless of the team. “I’m certainly not finished,” Juszczyk declared on January 5th. “There’s no decline in my game. Just watch my performance in the last two games and tell me where I’ve shown regression. I have no intention of stopping.”

Last offseason, Juszczyk nearly parted ways with the 49ers but stayed by agreeing to a pay cut. A similar arrangement was anticipated this offseason for him to embark on his ninth season with San Francisco, but it never came to fruition. Scheduled to account for $6,496,750 against the 2025 salary cap, his contract also includes void years through 2028, adding another $1,674,000 to the cap in 2026. With his release, the team will save $2,926,000 against this year’s cap, though they’ll incur an immediate dead money charge of $3,570,750.

Juszczyk was among the first acquisitions by coach Kyle Shanahan and general manager John Lynch when they assumed their roles in 2017. His tenure saw him earn a Pro Bowl selection each year, as well as a first-team All-Pro honor in 2023 and a second-team All-Pro nod in 2024. During his time with the 49ers, Juszczyk tallied 212 rushing yards and 5 touchdowns on 60 carries, along with 184 receptions for 1,895 yards and 13 touchdowns. Juszczyk’s release also means he narrowly misses joining the Niners’ exclusive 10-year club, reserved for players with a decade of uninterrupted service in San Francisco.
