LOS ANGELES – Savy King, a defender for Angel City, was taken off the field on a stretcher and hospitalized following what the team described as a “medical event” during their match against the Utah Royals in the National Women’s Soccer League on Friday night.
The incident occurred in the 74th minute, causing visible distress among players as medical staff hurried to assist King. She received attention on the field for approximately 10 minutes prior to being transported via cart.
Angel City released a statement detailing that King “was taken by EMS to the hospital after experiencing a medical event on the field. She is currently responsive and undergoing further evaluation. We appreciate everyone’s concern and support.”
After the conclusion of the match, both teams came together at midfield, forming a circle to pray for King’s wellbeing.
At just 20 years old, King was the second overall pick in the 2024 NWSL draft by Bay FC, a new team in the league, and she appeared in 18 matches for them. In February, she was traded to Angel City and has since started in all of the team’s eight games this season.
