Angel Reese expressed appreciation for the WNBA’s decision to investigate alleged abuse targeting a Chicago Sky player, emphasizing the league and her team’s unwavering support. The investigation was launched following reports of abuse directed at the second-year forward during Chicago’s game against the Indiana Fever on Saturday. “There’s absolutely no room for that in our league,” Reese stated during a media session on Tuesday. “The WNBA, my team, and our organization have shown incredible support for me.” Reese highlighted the backing she received from numerous league members throughout the incident and the ongoing investigation.
“It’s undoubtedly challenging, but I have a terrific support network,” the 23-year-old said. “I’m fortunate to be loved by so many people, and although it’s tough to hear in the moment, my support system is exceptional.” Reese reflected on her experiences over the years, acknowledging the importance of being part of an organization that wholeheartedly supports and cares for her: “I can’t imagine not being part of it.”
Chicago Sky’s head coach, Tyler Marsh, praised Reese’s resilience through the process. “She’s managed it remarkably well. For her, basketball remains the main focus, which is where her mind is,” Marsh explained. “We aim to stay concentrated on our game plan as we move into Thursday’s match.” Marsh added that Reese is a dedicated competitor and teammate, with reciprocal support from the team.
Following the incident, the WNBA issued a statement condemning racism, hate, and discrimination, standing firm in its commitment to prevent such behaviors. The Indiana Fever are assisting the league with the investigation. Indiana’s star guard, Caitlin Clark, echoed this sentiment after practice on Monday, stressing, “There’s no place for that in sports or society.” Clark appreciates the proactive steps the league and the Fever organization are taking, leaving the investigation to the authorities to ensure appropriate actions are taken. The Indiana Fever and Chicago Sky are set to face off three more times this regular season.
