Dutch semiconductor equipment giant ASML revealed net bookings of €3.94 billion ($4.47 billion) for the first quarter, falling short of analysts’ expectations of €4.89 billion. Christophe Fouquet, ASML’s CEO, highlighted that tariffs are introducing “a new uncertainty” impacting both the global economy and “our potential market demands.” The fragile state of global chip stocks reflects concerns about how U.S. President Donald Trump’s tariff strategy might disrupt the semiconductor supply chain.

ASML reported net bookings—critical indicators of order demand—at €3.94 billion ($4.47 billion) for the initial quarter of 2025, below the estimated €4.89 billion from analysts. Consequently, ASML’s shares dropped by 6% on Wednesday morning.

Evaluating ASML’s performance against LSEG consensus projections for the first quarter: * Net sales: €7.74 billion, compared to the anticipated €7.8 billion * Net profit: €2.36 billion, slightly surpassing the expected €2.3 billion

In his commentary accompanying the results, CEO Christophe Fouquet expressed confidence in the “strong” demand outlook driven largely by artificial intelligence. Yet, he cautioned that uncertainty regarding some clients might lead the company towards the lower end of its full-year revenue forecast.

ASML anticipates its 2025 revenue to be in the range of €30 billion to €35 billion.

Tariff Uncertainty

Fouquet emphasized that tariffs are introducing “a new uncertainty” on both a macroeconomic scale and affecting “our potential market demands.”

“This is a trend we need to monitor very closely,” Fouquet commented. “Currently, we still predict our 2025 revenue to range between €30 billion and €35 billion.”

Ben Barringer, an equity research analyst at Quilter Cheviot, noted that the repercussions of U.S. tariffs on ASML could be “extensive,” although it’s premature to determine their exact impact.

For the past two weeks, global chip stocks have been vulnerable due to apprehension over how Trump’s tariff plans might disturb the semiconductor supply chain.”} Draft 1 elaborado por JenniferP en noviembre 7, 2023.
