Tamim Iqbal, renowned as the former captain of Bangladesh’s cricket team, experienced a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match between Mohammedan Sporting Club and Shinepukur Cricket Club in Savar. This alarming incident led to Tamim undergoing an emergency angioplasty. Initially captaining the Mohammedan side, he participated in just one over of the first innings before exiting the field due to chest discomfort, as relayed by match referee Debabrata Paul to ESPNcricinfo.

Seeking immediate medical attention, Tamim traveled to the KPJ Specialised Hospital and Nursing Home (previously Fazilatunnesa Hospital). Although he planned to transfer to another hospital via air ambulance, additional complications prevented this move. His condition worsened, prompting a swift return to the initial hospital, where doctors found artery blockages through tests.

Reflecting on the events, BKSP’s chief cricket coach Montu Dutta remarked that Tamim seemed upbeat at the toss. However, upon feeling ill, he drove himself to the hospital. Despite doctors advising against his departure, Tamim attempted to arrange his transport via air ambulance. Later, doctors released a medical bulletin reporting that he had returned in a critical state. They confirmed a heart attack and successfully performed an angiogram and angioplasty to clear the blockage. Tamim is now under careful observation, benefiting from the rapid collaboration of BKSP’s medical staff and hospital experts.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board, reacting to this unexpected development, promptly canceled their scheduled board meeting for the afternoon. Board president Faruque Ahmed, alongside other members, is currently at the hospital as they monitor Tamim’s recovery closely.
