The Chicago Bears significantly boosted their defensive front on Monday by agreeing to terms with prominent players. Chicago secured free agent defensive end Dayo Odeyingbo with a three-year, $48 million deal, featuring $32 million guaranteed. This information comes from an ESPN source alongside various reports. Additionally, defensive tackle Grady Jarrett, who was let go by the Atlanta Falcons earlier on Monday, finalized a three-year, $43.5 million contract, with $28.5 million fully guaranteed, according to ESPN insider Adam Schefter.

A highly adaptable young edge rusher, Odeyingbo entered free agency with high expectations due to his dual ability in run defense and pass rushing.

In 2024, he commanded the Indianapolis Colts’ stats in pressures (33) and quarterback hits (17), even as his sack count dipped from eight in 2023 to three last year. At 25, Odeyingbo logged a career-high 719 snaps in 2024, more than any other defensive line member, showcasing his flexible play across both run and pass scenarios, regardless of yardage.

Standing tall at 6-foot-6 and 286 pounds, Odeyingbo’s extensive reach allows him to create advantageous physical battles. Not only can he cover the edge, but he can also transition to interior positions as a rusher during passing downs.

Odeyingbo’s resilience is notable. Despite entering the NFL on the heels of an Achilles tear prior to the draft, which restricted him to 10 rookie appearances, he has appeared in all 51 games for the Colts from 2022 through 2024, increasing his playing contributions each season.

Throughout four seasons, Odeyingbo has achieved 16.5 sacks.

Meanwhile, the Falcons made attempts to negotiate a fresh contract with Jarrett in hopes of retaining him in Atlanta; however, this ultimately concluded with his release, according to Marc Raimondi of ESPN.

Drafted by the Falcons in 2015, the 31-year-old Jarrett has been a staple and passionate leader of their defense for over a decade. An Atlanta local, he has been deeply involved in community activities and remains a beloved figure among fans.

With an impressive career total of 36.5 sacks, Jarrett battled back from a torn ACL injury sustained in Week 8 of the 2023 season to continue contributing strongly for the Falcons in 2024 with 2.5 sacks and 53 total tackles.
