A Colorado shuttle service, based in Longmont, has unexpectedly ceased operations, leaving many travelers in a lurch. Eight Black Airport Shuttle made the announcement on June 13 via its website, citing soaring insurance costs and increased airport fees as some of the reasons for its closure. The business served the Boulder and Weld counties, located approximately 45 miles northwest of Denver International Airport.
The company explained that it faced a “perfect storm” of financial challenges, including a significant hike in insurance premiums and rising regulatory fees, along with high capital expenditures. These financial strains made it impossible to maintain their shared ride model affordable for customers, while still meeting the expected service schedule and frequency.
Eight Black Airport Shuttle had expanded its services in 2022 by acquiring the shared ride operations of Green Ride Boulder and Longmont. In Colorado, shuttle services are subject to regulation by the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.
