The Washington Commanders have reinforced their offensive line through an assertive trade, acquiring Laremy Tunsil, a five-time Pro Bowl tackle, from the Houston Texans, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Sources indicate that Washington will trade four draft picks to Houston for Tunsil: a third-round and a seventh-round selection in 2025, along with a second-round and a fourth-round pick in 2026. Additionally, the Commanders will receive a fourth-round pick from Houston this spring.

This marks Washington’s second high-profile trade of the offseason. On March 1, the Commanders secured receiver Deebo Samuel Sr. from the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

Washington had targeted securing a standout left tackle this offseason. They were eyeing Ronnie Stanley until he re-signed with the Baltimore Ravens over the weekend. Last season, Brandon Coleman, drafted in the third round, started 15 games at left tackle for Washington, including all postseason appearances.

Bringing Tunsil onboard allows Washington to move Coleman to right tackle or into a guard position.

Tunsil, who has been selected to the Pro Bowl for three consecutive years, now stands as the most accomplished member of Washington’s offensive line. Improving the O-line was a main focus for the Commanders, intending to elevate protection for quarterback Jayden Daniels and enhance their running game.

Two years ago, Tunsil signed a lucrative three-year contract extension worth up to $75 million, with two more years under the current deal, impacting the salary cap by $21.35 million annually.

This trade marks Tunsil’s second career move. Initially drafted 13th overall by Miami in 2016, Tunsil was previously traded to Houston in a substantial deal involving three draft picks, including two first-rounders and a second-rounder, sent to the Dolphins.

Last season, Tunsil ranked 10th among offensive tackles in pass block win rate, according to TruMedia.
