Eugene “Big U” Henley, a prominent figure in the Crips and known as the “godfather” of rap for his role in launching Nipsey Hussle’s career, faces serious allegations from federal authorities. Announced on Wednesday, these charges include murder, kidnapping, robbery, extortion, and fraud.
The federal complaint, spanning 107 pages, describes Henley’s alleged influence in Los Angeles, where his victims reportedly “had to ‘check in’” with him upon entering the city to secure “protection.” The document mentions that some of his alleged victims included professional athletes and musicians, with their business ventures not always on the up-and-up.
Authorities compared “Big U Enterprise” to a “mafia-like organization,” saying it leveraged Henley’s reputation and long-standing ties to the Rollin’ 60s and other street gangs to pressure businesses and individuals in Los Angeles. During a press conference on Wednesday, authorities stated that Henley is currently a fugitive, while more than a dozen others have been arrested in connection with the extensive criminal charges.
