The Dallas Mavericks have sent Anthony Davis to the Texas Legends, enabling the 10-time All-Star to practice and participate in 5-on-5 scrimmages with the G League team as he prepares to return from a strained left adductor.
Davis, the highlight of the Mavericks’ return in the much-debated Luka Doncic trade, has been out of action since February 8. In his sole game with the Mavericks, Davis played for 31 minutes, scoring 26 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, providing 7 assists, and blocking 3 shots, before exiting early due to injury.
Insiders indicate there has been talk of ruling Davis out for the remainder of the season, but the star player remains determined to make a comeback.
Jaden Hardy, a guard who has had to sit out the last seven games because of a sprained ankle, has also been assigned to the Legends.
The injury-plagued Mavericks have, on several occasions recently, managed only the league-required minimum of eight active players, such as in the recent home defeat by the Philadelphia 76ers. Two-way players Kessler Edwards and Brandon Williams are nearing their limits for active NBA games, which could result in the Mavericks losing two vital performers who’ve contributed significantly over the past month.
Dallas has an available roster slot and qualifies for a hardship exception; however, they are capped tightly against the salary ceiling’s first level, making it financially impractical for the Mavericks to consider signing a player to a 10-day contract.
