Spoiler Alert: This write-up contains spoilers for Episode 3 of “Daredevil: Born Again,” now available on Disney+.
From the moment “Daredevil: Born Again” began, it set a thrilling tone by eliminating Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) in the first episode’s opening. The show has not shied away from raising stakes further in subsequent episodes.
The latest installment centers on a gripping legal battle following Hector Ayala (the late Kamar de los Reyes), known as the vigilante White Tiger. Accused of killing an NYPD officer in Episode 2, Hector’s case unfolds as he attempted to stop two corrupt officers from abusing a man at the subway, leading to a deadly accident. Matt Murdock (Charlie Cox) intervenes just in time to prevent further violence in the man’s home, delivering harsh justice to the rogue cops.
Defending Hector in a courtroom packed with police eager for conviction, Matt’s challenge intensifies. The trial begins under strained circumstances, and Matt’s first witness—the man whom Hector saved—nearly doesn’t make it to court, having been intimidated by the corrupt Officer Powell (Hamish Allan-Headley) and his cohorts, putting Hector’s freedom in the balance.
Going on the offensive, Matt cross-examines the police officers testifying against Hector. When Hector takes the stand, Matt portrays him as a brave hero who intervened to help someone in danger. In a dramatic move, Matt unveils Hector’s White Tiger mask in court, exposing the vigilante’s identity, shocking everyone. This bold strategy pays off, securing a not-guilty verdict for Hector.
However, Hector’s reprieve is short-lived. In a heart-wrenching twist, he suits up as White Tiger once more for patrol, only to be shot by a mysterious figure in the street. Although the shooter’s identity remains hidden, the black outfit and the iconic Punisher skull logo hint at a connection. This may conclude Hector’s tale, yet the legacy of White Tiger might live on. In the comics, Hector’s niece Angela and sister Ava carry on as the White Tiger, empowered by a magical jade amulet, suggesting future possibilities for the series.
Could this turn of events herald the reappearance of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, from his Netflix series days? While his face isn’t revealed, the recurring Punisher emblem—once seen on Officer Powell’s wrist tattoo in Episode 2—fuels speculation. Meanwhile, there’s also a shadowy serial killer, Muse, and the looming threat of Mayor Wilson Fisk’s (Vincent D’Onofrio) henchmen targeting vigilantism.
“Daredevil: Born Again” streams new episodes every Tuesday on Disney+.
