Daredevil: Born Again wraps up its first season with an explosive and violent finale that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats. The season has been a wild ride of fluctuating quality, but it concludes on a remarkable high. This finale merges the storylines of Matt Murdock and Wilson Fisk, culminating in a series of jaw-dropping events that significantly alter the show’s direction. Initially planned as an 18-episode single season, Born Again has been split into two seasons, so it’s no shock that the finale leaves us hanging. With Fisk’s grip tightening around New York City and Daredevil facing unprecedented challenges, this cliffhanger is truly enthralling. One of the episode’s standout moments is the reunion of Daredevil and the Punisher. These two unlikely allies have starkly contrasting methods—one offers mercy, while the other ensures his foes meet a grisly end. Frank Castle’s call-out of Matt Murdock for sparing Fisk is simply brilliant. The intense apartment battle between the duo and Fisk’s task force ranks among Marvel’s most brutal fight scenes, made all the more satisfying by the season’s buildup. Karen Page’s return adds depth, as her close ties with both Frank and Matt make her the ideal mediator to unite them. A classic Daredevil moment involves Matt sensing Karen’s heartbeat to gauge her true emotions.

The mystery of Vanessa’s involvement in the murder of Foggy Nelson unfolds when Matt discovers she orchestrated it after Foggy uncovered the Fisks’ schemes for Red Hook. Vanessa’s manipulation of Benjamin Poindexter, mirroring her husband’s tactics, completes this season’s intricate puzzle. Additionally, Bullseye evolves from a mere villain-for-hire to a multi-layered character, retaining the compelling traits that make him a tragic figure. Fisk’s audacious plan to transform New York into his own metropolis mirrors classic supervillain plots, reminiscent of Bane’s takeover in The Dark Knight Rises. Yet, Fisk’s strategy feels more grounded, heightening the fear as we witness his ruthless ascent to power. His public appearances in the iconic white suit signal his transformation into the Kingpin, and his brazen actions underscore his unchecked power, like his massacring of a rebellious commissioner in cold blood. Showrunner Dario Scardapane had hinted at a “batshit” moment, and he delivered with potentially the most violent act in the MCU’s history. If you thought Matt’s knee-breaking moment in episode five was intense, think again!

The episode’s poetic conclusion raises doubts about Daredevil’s ability to reclaim the city. Although Murdock traditionally relied on the law, Fisk’s corruption leaves him with little legal recourse. As season two approaches, the burning question remains: how will Daredevil rally to counter Fisk’s insidious influence? Hopefully, he allies with notable figures—the Defenders, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, or perhaps Spider-Man or Hawkeye—since they all call New York home. It’s disappointing when the expected reveal is merely a handful of cops and companions who previously failed to thwart Fisk. Among the episode’s numerous astounding scenes, the Punisher’s showdown with Fisk’s task force is unforgettable. His disdain for their misuse of his emblem is clear, but it would have been more powerful if he emphasized their misunderstanding of its significance. Daredevil: Born Again concludes with a gripping finale that sets the stage for a monumental struggle for Daredevil in the upcoming season, packed with thrilling moments from captivating collaborations to Fisk’s shocking violence, it’s an exhilarating experience that leaves audiences craving more.
