After dedicating 11 seasons to the Dallas Cowboys, DeMarcus Lawrence has found a new team. The seasoned defensive end, a four-time Pro Bowl honoree, has secured a three-year contract with the Seattle Seahawks. The deal promises him $18 million in guaranteed money and can reach a maximum value of $42 million, according to a source who shared the news with ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
The Seahawks were looking to strengthen their defense along the edge following the release of Dre’Mont Jones. Discussions are also underway with linebacker Uchenna Nwosu about modifying his deal to reduce his $21 million salary cap impact.
In Seattle, Lawrence will be reunited with Aden Durde, who worked with him as the Cowboys’ defensive line coach prior to joining the Seahawks last year to oversee Mike Macdonald’s defense.
In the 2024 season, Lawrence was limited to just four games due to a right midfoot sprain sustained during a match against the New York Giants. He was placed on injured reserve in anticipation of a potential return, but with the Cowboys concluding the season with a 7-10 record, a comeback was deemed unnecessary. He ended the season with 14 tackles, 3 sacks, and 8 quarterback pressures.
At 32, Lawrence has carved out a reputation as a formidable two-way defensive end, known for both his pass-rushing capabilities and run-stopping skills. In 2019, after back-to-back seasons with 14.5 and 10.5 sacks, he inked a landmark contract with the Cowboys - a five-year agreement worth $105 million guaranteed. Despite not exceeding 6.5 sacks in any season following the agreement, Lawrence continued to earn praise for his diverse skill set beyond just sacking the quarterback. Aside from his injury-plagued years in 2021 and 2024, he consistently achieved at least 36 pressures and six tackles for loss. To date, Lawrence boasts 61.5 sacks over his 11-season NFL career.
