After wrapping up a tough season kickoff on the West Coast, the Detroit Tigers are ready to host their home opener on Friday afternoon at Comerica Park, against a familiar adversary, the Chicago White Sox. With the Tigers sitting at a 2-4 record, the season began with a rocky three-game sweep loss to the reigning champs, the Los Angeles Dodgers, in LA. However, they bounced back slightly, claiming two out of three victories over the Seattle Mariners. The road trip concluded in a narrow 3-2 defeat, partially due to a fielding error by Colt Keith in the second inning. The Tigers are set to start seasoned pitcher Jack Flaherty (0-0, 3.18 ERA) who has recently re-signed with the team on a two-year, $35 million contract as of February 7. On the White Sox side (also 2-4), they are fielding second-year right-hander Jonathan Cannon (0-0, 0.00 ERA). Fans can catch the first pitch at 1:10 p.m. with coverage available on FanDuel Sports Network Detroit and streaming on Fubo.

ANALYSIS: Tigers, it’s time to play ball! The home opener will see some familiar faces.
Top of the 2nd: Tigers 1-1 White Sox Brooks Baldwin hit a double, allowing both himself and catcher Matt Thaiss to race around the bases. In a bold move, the White Sox sent Thaiss towards home. Though a relay from Carpenter to shortstop Trey Sweeney seemed to buy the Tigers enough time for an out, Sweeney’s errant throw forced catcher Dillon Dingler to adjust. Despite having a window to tag Thaiss, Dingler dropped the ball, allowing Thaiss to slide in safely.
Bottom of the 1st: Tigers 1-0 White Sox With one out and the bases empty, left fielder Kerry Carpenter smacked a 0-0 sweeper down the right field line, just clearing the wall, putting the Tigers on the scoreboard early.
Excitement buzzed before the game, as the Tigers’ roster was introduced. Notably, modifications to Comerica Park include the removal of the keyhole and updates to the left field scoreboard, setting the stage for an exciting new season.
