I’ve piloted numerous drones over the years, yet the DJI Mavic 4 Pro stands out as my top choice.

ZDNET’s Key Insights

  • DJI’s flagship model boasts an outstanding airframe paired with superior obstacle detection sensors and exceptional cameras.
  • It offers the longest flight time I’ve encountered in a consumer drone, with a claimed duration of 51 minutes; in my tests, it consistently provided a solid 45 minutes.
  • Though currently unavailable in the U.S. due to tariffs, it comes with a hefty price tag. Over recent days, I’ve been evaluating DJI’s latest premier drone, the Mavic 4 Pro. It’s the newest entrant in the Mavic Pro series and undeniably the finest consumer drone I’ve operated. For readers in the U.S., availability is pending, but let’s set that aside for now. I’ll revisit this point shortly. First, let’s delve into the Mavic 4 Pro. This series introduced us to a dual-camera aerial setup, followed by a triple-camera system. The concept is to equip drones with the best cameras available, coupled with a premium platform capable of capturing breathtaking shots in unique locales. The drone itself is impressive. Measuring an ample 12.9 × 15.4 × 5.3 inches without propellers and tipping the scales at 2.3 pounds, it’s sizeable even among Mavic Pros. Yet, it remains highly agile, reaching speeds of up to 56 miles per hour. A large drone like this demands substantial power, and DJI has equipped it with robust 6,654 mAh/95.3 Wh LiNiMnCoO2 batteries. These theoretically provide up to 51 minutes of air time, 45 minutes while hovering, and a maximum range nearing 25.5 miles. During tests, I achieved around 45 minutes of varied flight, which felt interminable in a good way. At one point, I suspected the battery was nearing depletion, only to discover a generous 20 minutes remained. The Mavic 4 Pro indeed qualifies as a huge machine! Given the size of these batteries, DJI focused on optimizing recharge speeds by supplying a dedicated Mavic 240W power adapter and a Mavic 4 Pro Parallel Charging Hub. This system recharges one battery in approximately 50 minutes, while it can rejuvenate three batteries in about 90 minutes total.
