Donald Trump Criticizes 60 Minutes Over Recent Segments on Ukraine and Greenland

Donald Trump has once again expressed his discontent with 60 Minutes, this time reacting critically to their segments on Ukraine and Greenland. This isn’t a new occurrence, as Trump’s history with the media, and 60 Minutes in particular, has been tumultuous. What stands out this time, however, is his attempt to wield influence over independent media regulators.

On Truth Social, Trump reached out on Sunday to propose the revocation of their broadcast license and urged FCC Chairman Brendan Carr to impose the heaviest possible fines and sanctions for what he labeled as ‘unlawful and illegal behavior.’

Nearly every week, Trump argues, 60 Minutes, facing a multimillion-dollar lawsuit for alleged election fraud concerning their interview with Kamala Harris during the 2024 Presidential Election, mentions his name disparagingly. Nonetheless, this continues.

The segments in question were typical fare for 60 Minutes. One segment included an interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, during which Scott Pelley accused Trump of rewriting history by falsely claiming that Ukraine initiated the war. The segment aired a clip where Trump derogatorily referred to Zelensky as a “dictator.” Zelensky, in turn, invited Trump to visit Ukraine to witness the effects of Russian aggression firsthand.

In the segment focusing on Greenland, Jon Wertheim interviewed locals opposed to the idea of U.S. annexation. “Greenland is for Greenlanders, not for anybody else,” declared Jens-Frederik Nielsen, the country’s prime minister.

Trump’s recent comments coincide with news that a mediator has been appointed to attempt a resolution in his $20 billion lawsuit against CBS, concerning the editing of a 60 Minutes interview with Kamala Harris. Trump asserts the edit was deliberately skewed to present Harris in a favorable light, aiding her campaign—an accusation the network has denied.

Despite Trump’s assertions, many legal experts regard the lawsuit as lacking merit. Trump claims the edited segment diverted viewers from his media outlet, Truth Social, thus damaging the platform.
