Before stepping out this Easter Sunday, it might be wise to check which places have their doors open, as not all of them will.
This year, Easter lands on April 20. While it isn’t a federal holiday, it’s celebrated widely across the U.S., causing many businesses to either close or shorten their hours.
According to the National Retail Federation, Americans are expected to spend a whopping $23.6 billion on Easter festivities. Whether you’re in need of some last-minute groceries, craving a meal, or simply want to unwind, here’s a guide to what’s open and closed this Easter Sunday.
Walmart, Kroger’s, Food Lion, Wegmans, and Trader Joe’s (with the exception of a store in Portland, Maine) will all keep to their usual hours. However, it’s still smart to check your local store as hours could differ.
On the flip side, several big retailers like Target, Aldi, Lowe’s, and Best Buy will be closed for the holiday. Similarly, warehouse clubs such as Costco and Sam’s Club won’t be open that day.
If you’re planning to shop for clothes or household items, you’ll have to wait—stores like TJ Maxx, Marshalls, HomeGoods, Burlington, and JCPenney won’t be opening their doors on Easter.
Most well-known fast-food chains such as McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and Wendy’s will welcome patrons on Easter Sunday, though individual locations may have different hours.
If you’re in the mood for a sit-down meal, establishments like Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, and Golden Corral will serve customers during their usual hours. Restaurants such as Applebee’s, IHOP, and Panera Bread might adjust their schedules, so it’s prudent to call ahead or check online.
However, you’ll find some popular eateries like Zaxby’s, Chipotle, CAVA, Raising Cane’s, and In-N-Out taking a break for the holiday.
Most banks will remain closed on Easter Sunday, which is typical as many don’t operate on Sundays. Nonetheless, online and mobile banking services will remain functional.
In line with the usual schedule, markets remain closed over the weekend, and the New York Stock Exchange and Nasdaq will resume trading on Monday.
You can expect US Postal Service offices to shut, with no regular mail delivery, adhering to standard Sunday operations, though Express Critical will remain in service.
Most FedEx services won’t be running either, although FedEx offices will operate on modified hours, and Custom Critical will be available.
