Ed Sheeran and Taylor Swift cherish spending meaningful time together whenever they can. “I see her when I see her,” Sheeran, 34, mentioned during his appearance on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast on Wednesday, April 9. “I see her probably about four times a year.”
Nowadays, when they meet, it’s usually a “proper sit-down, six-hour catch-up,” Sheeran detailed. “I think that’s quite a lovely way to connect.”
Their friendship dates back to 2012 when they collaborated on “Everything Has Changed” for Swift’s album Red. The following year, Sheeran joined her on the Red Tour, cementing their bond.
Sheeran shared with “Call Her Daddy” host Alex Cooper that “the time during The Red Tour” holds some of his most cherished memories with Swift. “We both lived in Nashville, so we’d travel to gigs together and enjoy all kinds of adventures,” he reminisced. “For about six months, I was with her nearly every single day.”
Recently, Sheeran had a chance to revisit the early days of his friendship with Swift. “I was wrapped up in several court cases for a couple of years. Well, longer than two years technically, but annually there was one, where I had to sort through my old devices to provide voice notes and such for the legal proceedings,” he revealed. “Rifling through all my old messages from people I’ve known that long ago was incredibly nostalgic.”
In another conversation last month, Sheeran touched upon the court case, noting that he hasn’t used a mobile phone since 2015. (He was involved in a copyright lawsuit concerning “Thinking Out Loud,” which ended with a jury ruling in his favor in 2023.)
Reflecting on powering up an old phone, Sheeran added: “It felt like stepping into a time capsule. The first message was from a friend who had passed the year before, and the second was a spat with an ex-girlfriend.”
