LOMA LINDA, Calif. (KABC) — Reports of a potentially armed suspect at Loma Linda University Children’s Hospital led to a significant police presence on Wednesday afternoon. Fortunately, officials confirmed that no genuine threat was present after an intense investigation.
The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department determined the situation was likely a swatting incident, indicating a false alarm. “Following a detailed investigation, we can confirm no active threat exists on the campus, and all regular activities have resumed,” stated a spokesperson from Loma Linda University Health. Law enforcement officers will continue their presence on campus as they conclude related inquiries.
At around 6:30 p.m., the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department acknowledged on X that they were responding to reports concerning an armed suspect at the hospital. “We are aware of reports suggesting a possibly armed person within Loma Linda Hospital. Deputies are currently on-site and clearing the facility. It’s advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes,” they mentioned on X. Although the suspect was supposedly inside the hospital, there were no clear reports of gunfire.
Footage from AIR7 showed the massive response, with over 200 law enforcement vehicles converging on the site, resulting in traffic congestion in the surrounding neighborhood. Students and individuals in nearby medical facilities received a text alert warning of an immediate threat, stating, “This is not a drill: Initiate immediate protective actions. If confronted with a threat, RUN, HIDE, FIGHT.”
