The FDA has issued a warning to consumers in the U.S. about a widely-loved chocolate treat that poses a “life-threatening allergic reaction” risk to some individuals. Lipari Foods, based in Warren, Michigan, is recalling its 14oz packages of JLM Branded Dark Chocolate Nonpareils. The recall is due to the potential presence of milk, which isn’t declared on the packaging, posing a serious threat to those with milk allergies if consumed.

This action followed notification from Weaver Nut Company to Lipari Foods, indicating that milk might be present in the product yet is not listed on its packaging. The candies, packaged in 14oz clear plastic containers, have been distributed across the U.S. via retail outlets. Affected packages can be identified by the lot numbers 28202501A, 29202501A, 23202504A, 14202505A, 15202505A, and 03202506A, which appear on the bottom label of the container.

Consumers who have purchased these products are advised to either throw them away or return them to the store where they were bought. Fortunately, the FDA reports that no illnesses or adverse reactions have been associated with this recall so far.
