Opening statements have commenced in the federal criminal trial of Sean “Diddy” Combs, taking place in New York City. This morning, a jury was finalized, consisting of eight men and four women who have been duly sworn in. Combs stands accused of racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transporting individuals for the purpose of prostitution, charges to which he has pleaded not guilty. If found guilty on all charges, he faces the possibility of a life sentence.

Prosecutors allege that Combs manipulated at least three women into performing sex acts with him and male prostitutes during events called “Freak Offs.” These occasions allegedly involved the women being drugged and coerced into several days of sexual activities. On the defense, attorney Teny Geragos has clarified that while Combs does admit to past violent behavior, the case is not centered around sex trafficking but is instead about his personal life decisions and the nature of his relationships.
