Fidelity’s trading platforms faced significant disruptions just as U.S. stock markets began trading on Monday morning, preventing many users on its online, mobile, and Active Trader applications from executing buy or sell orders. This technical glitch occurred despite a surge in major stock indices, driven by the weekend’s promising developments in U.S.-China trade discussions, frustrating investors eager to capitalize on the rally. By 10:30 a.m. ET, the Standard & Poor’s 500 index had climbed more than 2.5%.

In response, Fidelity addressed the issues on Reddit where users had voiced their complaints, stating, “We are working urgently to resolve the technical difficulties.” They further expressed apologies for the inconvenience and gratitude towards their customers for their patience. However, Fidelity chose not to provide additional comments on the outage. By mid-morning, thousands of users had reported account access issues, as indicated by data from Down Detector, a website that tracks outages.
