Microsoft has just unveiled Gears of War: Reloaded, a revamped edition of the iconic 2006 game. Scheduled for release on August 26, this exciting new version will be available on Xbox, PC, and PlayStation. Fans can anticipate enhanced graphics and sound design, alongside cross-play and cross-progression capabilities, plus all downloadable content from Gears of War: Ultimate Edition.
“As we near the 20th anniversary of Gears of War in 2026, we find ourselves reminiscing about the significance of this franchise,” stated Mike Crump, Studio Head at The Coalition. “It’s rooted in the stories we’ve crafted, the friendships we’ve forged, and the unforgettable moments we’ve experienced together. Gears of War: Reloaded invites more players than ever to join in on these adventures.”
PlayStation users will finally get in on the action, as old boundaries between consoles fall away. “Gears of War: Reloaded is designed with shared experiences in mind, whether that’s through split-screen cooperation or online gaming,” Crump confirmed. The Campaign mode supports two-player co-op, while Versus Multiplayer expands the battlefield for up to eight players. With cross-play enabled across all platforms, you can team up with friends regardless of where they play—and there’s no need for a Microsoft account to do so.
Logging in with a Microsoft account opens up additional features like full cross-platform functionality and cross-progression. This means your Campaign achievements and multiplayer stats travel with you across devices. Microsoft has also released a comprehensive list of the game’s technical enhancements:
In a delightful bonus for dedicated fans, those who previously purchased the digital version of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition will receive Gears of War: Reloaded as a free upgrade.
