In the latest developments surrounding Donald Trump’s new tariffs, more than 50 nations have sought to negotiate with him in hopes of mitigating the wide-reaching tariffs he declared last week, as reported by the White House. Despite the international outcry and subsequent market instability, Trump remains resolute in maintaining his trade strategy. On Sunday, he was spotted on the golf course, later taking to Truth Social to encourage Americans to “hang tough,” branding the tariffs as part of an “economic revolution.” Countries like Vietnam, Israel, and the UK are hustling to secure exemptions or postponements, with some facing tariffs as steep as 46 percent. Notably, Vietnam has requested a 45-day deferment, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is set to visit for discussions. In the UK, Prime Minister Keir Starmer highlighted a significant shift in the global economy, which now leans more on alliances than on established rules. He expressed readiness for state intervention to defend domestic industries, suggesting protective measures to safeguard businesses from the economic impact.

White House insiders confirm that ongoing negotiations with Russia regarding Ukraine are a primary reason why Moscow remains unaffected by the tariffs. Meanwhile, the stock markets have reacted dramatically. Saudi Arabia’s market experienced a nearly 7 percent dive, while former Obama advisor Larry Summers cautioned about potential future disturbances. Trump’s economic advisors, including tariff expert Peter Navarro, attempted to reassure investors, emphasizing that under Trump’s policies, the stock market is poised for unprecedented growth.

Facing a 10 percent tariff, the UK is gearing up for possible further economic strain. Starmer has engaged with European leaders, affirming that a US trade agreement will proceed only if it favors British businesses. In response, Jaguar Land Rover has temporarily ceased US shipments under the new conditions. Starmer stressed that revitalizing Britain’s industrial competitiveness is crucial, warning that adhering to the previous global order is no longer viable.
