Exciting news for fans eagerly anticipating “Happy Gilmore 2!” The sequel to Adam Sandler’s 1996 comedic golf classic is set to debut on Netflix on July 25. Mark your calendars!
In the newest trailer, Sandler reprises his role as a former hockey player who finds a unique outlet for his fiery temperament on the golf course.
The film promises nods to its predecessor and features a blend of familiar faces and delightful surprises, including music sensation Bad Bunny. Keep an eye out for appearances by golfing stars John Daly, Scottie Scheffler, Rory McIlroy, and Bryson DeChambeau.
Returning to the franchise are Julie Bowen as Happy’s love, Virginia Venit, Christopher McDonald back as the enduring adversary Shooter McGavin, and Ben Stiller, reprising his role as the formidable nursing home orderly from the original film.
Released on March 18, the trailer hints at Gilmore’s quest to reinvigorate his golf career. “I haven’t swung a club in years,” he muses. “Where to begin?”
Emphasizing the passage of time, he humorously notes, “It’s time to upgrade my happy place to suit my age.”
Bowen’s character returns with motivational words. “We’re not done with golf,” she assures him. “Show them the Happy I fell for.”
In an April 2024 chat on “The Dan Patrick Show,” Sandler revealed he partnered with longtime collaborator and college buddy, Tim Herlihy, for the script but kept further details under wraps.
Sandler also mentioned that the film will pay tribute to the important figures from the original, like Bob Barker, Carl Weathers, and Joe Flaherty, who have since passed away.
Joining forces once more is the original “Happy Gilmore” team. Sandler collaborates with co-writer Herlihy, while the original movie’s director, Dennis Dugan, returns as executive producer. Producers Jack Giarraputo and Robert Simonds, veterans of the first film, also rejoin the project. Kyle Newacheck takes the helm as director for the sequel, reuniting with Sandler after their work on the 2019 Netflix hit “Murder Mystery.”
