Former San Diego Padres outfielder Jurickson Profar has reportedly been flagged for a banned substance, leading to a probable suspension, according to MLB insider Mike Rodriguez. The San Diego Padres commenced their season with a clean sweep against the Atlanta Braves, winning all four games. However, the Braves may now find themselves without their starting left fielder for an unspecified duration.
In 2024, Profar made substantial contributions to the Padres, recording a batting average of .280/.380/.459. He set personal bests with 24 home runs, added 29 doubles, drove in 85 runs, and crossed home plate 94 times. His impressive performance was an integral part of the Padres’ 94 victories that season. Despite his value, Profar left as a free agent during the offseason.
Although Profar expressed an interest in rejoining the Padres, the negotiations with his agent and the team’s management were minimal and did not result in an offer from the front office. Profar, who signed with the Braves in late January, partly attributed the missed reunion to ownership issues with the Padres.
Currently, in 2025, Profar is off to a slow start, batting .200 with an OPS of .450. The details concerning the severity of Profar’s impending suspension are yet to be disclosed, but further information from MLB is anticipated soon.
