The New York Knicks found their stride with Karl-Anthony Towns playing a vital role, resembling a fierce tiger as needed in a decisive game.
After being relatively quiet in previous matchups, Towns roared back to life, becoming instrumental in the Knicks’ commanding 119-81 triumph over the Celtics in Game 6 on Friday night. This victory secures their advancement to face the Pacers in the Eastern Conference Finals.
Towns, who also reached the playoffs’ third round in the Western Conference with the Timberwolves last year, scored an impressive 16 of his 21 total points in the first half.
As he exited the court in the fourth quarter, he received a resounding standing ovation, finishing his 35 minutes with a team-leading 12 rebounds. Throughout the series against Boston, he averaged an outstanding 12.7 rebounds per game.
While Towns was the most accurate 42-percent shooter in the regular season, he struggled this game with a 1-for-6 record from beyond the arc.
Across the series, he managed to sink only three of his 19 three-point attempts.
Additionally, Towns faced frequent foul trouble, accruing at least four personal fouls in each of the six games, including another four during his 35 minutes in Game 6.
