The Colombian goalkeeper is sidelined with gastroenteritis and will not be defending the goal against ‘La Fiera.’
MEXICO — Cruz Azul’s starting goalkeeper, Kevin Mier, has been removed from Vicente Sánchez’s lineup for the game against León due to a bout of gastroenteritis. This marks the first Liga MX match that the Colombian will miss since joining La Maquina in 2024. As a result, Andrés Gudiño will step into the starting role against La Fiera.
On Tuesday, Kevin Mier reported feeling unwell to Cruz Azul’s medical staff, leading to the decision to exclude him from the squad for the match against León, which is part of the 16th day of the Clausura 2025 championship. Mier has been diagnosed with gastroenteritis, prompting his absence.
This is a rare absence for Kevin Mier in the Liga MX since he signed with Cruz Azul in the Clausura 2024 tournament. So far, he had only been left out for strategy reasons during the two games against Real Hope in the First Round of the Concacaf Champions Cup last February. Aside from those events, the Colombian goalkeeper has been consistently guarding the goal in all 69 matches available for the celestes.
Filling Kevin Mier’s spot will be Andrés Gudiño, who has not seen Liga MX action for a year and five months. The Mexican keeper had only played in the two encounters against Real Hope in February when Mier was benched during the Concacaf Champions Cup’s First Round. The last time Andrés Gudiño was in the goal for Cruz Azul during a Liga MX match was on the final day of the Apertura 2023 against Puebla, where La Maquina suffered a 1-2 defeat at the Estadio Azteca under the management of Joaquín Moreno.
