For the second time in three years, LSU baseball has claimed victory in Omaha. The Tigers triumphed over No. 13 Coastal Carolina with a thrilling 5-3 win during the College World Series championship series on June 22 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska. This victory marks LSU’s eighth overall College World Series championship, ranking second in Division I history, just behind USC’s 12 titles. It also represents the Tigers’ second win under coach Jay Johnson, as well as the SEC’s sixth straight title.
“I’m just so proud. This is a team. Our whole motto of the year was tough and together and that is what they did from August 26th through now,” expressed Johnson, who has now become the fastest coach to secure two CWS titles at one school in NCAA baseball history, to ESPN. “Just incredibly proud.”
In the bottom of the first inning, Coastal Carolina manager Kevin Schnall and first base coach Matt Schilling faced ejections. Home plate umpire Angel Campos issued Schnall a warning for disputing strike and ball calls, which led to his ejection after stepping onto the field. Both have been suspended from the start of the 2026 season.
The fourth inning saw LSU’s offense erupt against Coastal Carolina ace Jacob Morrison, who loaded the bases early on. Chris Stanfield then hit a crucial two-RBI single to left field, giving LSU their first lead. Three batters later, Derek Curiel came through with another key hit, a two-RBI single that extended the lead to 5-1.
Initially, Coastal Carolina took a 1-0 advantage in the bottom of the second inning with Dean Mihos’ solo home run. LSU evened the score in the following half-inning with Ethan Frey’s RBI double. Following Kade Anderson’s impressive Game 1 efforts, Anthony Eyanson delivered a strong performance himself, pitching 6 1/3 innings, striking out nine, and giving up three runs on seven hits with two home runs allowed.
