Considered a strong contender for the Masters this year, Ludvig Aberg appeared to be in top form after finishing second to Scottie Scheffler in 2024. Despite missing the cut in his last two events before the year’s first major, Aberg delivered when it mattered most. On Thursday, April 10, he began the tournament with an impressive four-under 68. Initially sitting at even par through the first 11 holes, the Swedish golfer dazzled with four birdies in his final seven holes, bringing him just three strokes behind the leader. “It was sneaky hard,” Aberg remarked about the conditions at Augusta National in an interview with Fox54. “The wind doesn’t blow excessively, but it’s deceptive. Some greens get crusty in the afternoon, which means you need precise second shots if you’re decent off the tee. It becomes challenging when the wind changes direction.”

Prior to the Masters kickoff, Aberg enjoyed participating in the Par 3 contest alongside his girlfriend Olivia Peet, a tennis player who humorously insisted she wouldn’t be trading her racquet for a golf club anytime soon. “Well that was fun⛳️ but… think I’ll stick to tennis!” she quipped. Her playful photos quickly attracted attention on social media, with fans showering compliments. “Cutest caddie there ever was,” commented one user, while another added, “But you looked good doing it.” A third fan jokingly noted, “At least the ball was airborne, ahaha!! So cute.”

As Aberg made his second appearance at Augusta National, he reflected on how his familiarity with the course benefited him. “Experience at this venue is invaluable, and I felt we executed a very disciplined round today,” he shared. “When your shots are precise, everything becomes significantly simpler. We managed our in-between club decisions prudently and avoided forcing the game.”
