The much-anticipated transfer of Martín Zubimendi from Real Sociedad to Arsenal, which we’ve been reporting on since the Daily Mail hinted at an agreement in January, is making headlines again. This comes as the txuriurdin midfielder gears up for a critical match in the European competition, possibly marking his final appearances at Anoeta before the transfer.

Renowned transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Zubimendi has reached a long-term agreement with Arsenal. Recent updates from England have reignited discussions about the midfielder’s move to the Gunners. Previously, MARCA highlighted the progression of this deal on January 14, noting the ambition of Mikel Arteta to unite Zubimendi with Mikel Merino, signed last summer, and Martin Odegaard, who also joined after a stint with the txuriurdin squad. These details surfaced after a final renewal attempt by Real Sociedad’s top brass, which ultimately fell through.

We had predicted that Zubimendi’s departure wouldn’t become a drawn-out saga and might be formalized before the conclusion of the 2014-25 season. On March 29, we reiterated that Zubimendi’s future was aligned with Arsenal, who appeared willing to pay slightly over his €60 million release clause, structured in installments.

In a recent interview with Real Sociedad’s website, Zubimendi made remarks that seemed almost like a farewell, though his future at Arsenal wasn’t directly addressed. The anticipation builds as fans await whether an official announcement will precede the season’s final match in San Sebastián on Sunday, the 18th, or if it will be held until the season concludes.
