Marvel fans are buzzing with excitement as some of their favorite Avengers are reuniting for the highly-anticipated “Avengers: Doomsday” film. Marvel unveiled on Wednesday that a host of superheroes will feature in this next chapter of the blockbuster franchise, set to hit theaters in 2026.
Leading the lineup and returning to the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is Chris Hemsworth, reprising his iconic role as Thor, a character he’s embodied since 2011. The announcement came during an extensive livestream event. Joining him are several familiar faces, including Anthony Mackie stepping back into the shoes of Sam Wilson/Captain America, Sebastian Stan as the enigmatic Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier, and Paul Rudd as the charming Scott Lang/Ant-Man.
Simu Liu returns as the valiant Shang-Chi, a character from his standalone 2021 film. Letitia Wright will bring Shuri from “Black Panther” back to the screen, alongside her previous Avengers appearances. Wyatt Russell reprises his role as John Walker/U.S. Agent and David Harbour returns as Alexei Shostakov/Red Guardian.
Fans can also look forward to fresh faces who are set to shine in “Fantastic Four: First Steps” this summer. Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn have been added to the ensemble cast, promising to bring new dynamics to the film.
Tenoch Huerta Mejía, known for his captivating portrayal of Namor in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” along with the legendary Kelsey Grammer, who portrayed Beast in “X-Men: The Last Stand” and made a surprise appearance in 2023’s “The Marvels,” will also feature. Towards the end of the livestream, it was revealed that Tom Hiddleston’s ever-charismatic Loki will be part of “Doomsday.”
The formidable Sir Patrick Stewart will return as Professor X, joining forces once again with Ian McKellen as his long-standing friend and foe, Magneto. These characters, some of whom have storied pasts in the MCU or other Marvel titles, bring intrigue as fans speculate over their roles—whether as core team members or compelling cameos.
The last major Avengers gathering was back in 2019’s record-smashing “Endgame,” which bid farewell to the demonic Thanos (Josh Brolin) and witnessed the heroic sacrifice of Iron Man/Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.). Yet, in a twist that has fans eagerly waiting, last year it was disclosed that Downey Jr. will make a comeback, this time as the antagonist Dr. Doom.
Scheduled to premiere on May 1, 2026, “Avengers: Doomsday” is already set to be a monumental event in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
