It may be a hard pill to swallow, but this is indeed considered canon, folks.
We have our first glimpse into the life of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Scarlet Witch post-Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, courtesy of an unexpected source. She makes an appearance in the third issue of Marvel’s TVA comic book series, without any buildup or fanfare, simply lounging in a large glass coffin.
However, there’s a complication here regarding the series’ place in the official canon. Marvel hasn’t been reserved about linking direct references from the MCU into the TVA comics. Characters like Miss Minutes and Mobius seem to be the same ones from the films. Even Spider-Gwen makes a direct reference to the events of Loki’s second season in the first issue.
Further adding to the confusion, one of TVA’s artists, Pere Perez, has confirmed that the Wanda Maximoff in the latest issue is indeed Elizabeth Olsen’s character. Despite Marvel’s apparent efforts to align this series with the MCU, fans remain skeptical, as seen in comments on the r/MCUTheories subreddit.
“Not canon, most people aren’t into comics plus Marvel loves to incorporate Easter eggs and picks popular MCU elements for comics,” noted user Shadow_Senpai17. “It will be canon until the filmmakers don’t see this and decide otherwise,” added user Vengeance_20.
To be fair, the commenters have a point. While Marvel promotes the TVA series as a canonical continuation of the MCU’s Loki, they’ve previously introduced “canonical” events in comics, only to later ignore them in films. So whether this holds up as canon is ultimately up to Kevin Feige. Perhaps more will be unveiled when the TVA resurfaces in future MCU movies, such as the upcoming Avengers: Doomsday multi-universe saga.
