NEW YORK (AP) – Michael Jordan is set to embark on a new chapter with NBC Sports as a special contributor to their NBA broadcasts starting with the 2025-26 season.

NBC revealed this exciting news on Monday morning during its upfront presentation at the iconic Radio City Music Hall, where it showcased upcoming programming for the next TV season.

“I am thrilled to witness the NBA’s return to NBC,” Jordan expressed in a video message. “The NBA on NBC played a significant role in my career, and I’m eager to contribute as a special guest. Can’t wait to see everyone tune in when the NBA on NBC kicks off this October.”

NBC is making a comeback to NBA coverage after a 23-year hiatus. The network previously held NBA rights from 1990 until 2002 and televised all six of Jordan’s championship victories with the Chicago Bulls.

For the first time, Jordan is aligning with a network in this capacity. His presence and insights were highly anticipated following the 2020 “The Last Dance” docuseries, which chronicled his illustrious career and the conclusion of the Bulls dynasty in 1998.

“Michael’s profound impact on and beyond the basketball court is unparalleled,” stated NBC Sports President Rick Cordella. “We’re incredibly honored to have him aboard for our coverage.”

NBC’s 11-year agreement with the NBA and WNBA will commence in October, marking a new era of sports broadcasting. Peacock is set to exclusively stream Monday night games, while NBC/Peacock will feature regional doubleheaders on Tuesday evenings. Additionally, the exciting introduction of “Sunday Night Basketball” on NBC and Peacock is planned for January.
