In a remarkable incident, all 80 individuals aboard a plane that crashed and overturned during a landing in Toronto have been reported safe, according to officials.

The Delta Air Lines flight originating from Minneapolis veered off the runway, igniting flames as it came to rest upside down. Firefighters swiftly responded to the scene, facilitating the breathtaking rescue.

Passengers recounted their harrowing experience of being suspended upside down in their seats and having to unbuckle themselves, landing on the ceiling before making their way out onto the snowy runway.

Eighteen individuals sustained injuries, though only a few are believed to be seriously hurt. Investigators are currently probing the factors that led to the crash.

The aircraft, a 16-year-old CRJ900 manufactured by Canada’s Bombardier, carried 76 passengers and a crew of four.

In a briefing held in the evening, Deborah Flint of the Greater Toronto Airports Authority praised the emergency responders’ “textbook” handling of the situation, acknowledging their role in the absence of fatalities.

Among the passengers, 22 were Canadian, and the remainder represented various nationalities, according to Ms. Flint.

Following the incident, the airport was temporarily shut down, but resumed operations around 17:00 local time.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) stated it is in the process of “gathering information and assessing the occurrence.”

Despite initial reports of wind gusts exceeding 64 km/h (40 mph) and crosswinds, conditions on the runway were described as dry and without crosswinds.

Eighteen individuals were hospitalized, with three facing more severe injuries. The airport’s arrival and departure boards showed numerous delays and cancellations, affecting many travelers.
