New Orleans Celebrates Fat Tuesday with a Schedule Shift

Everywhere else, it’s merely a Tuesday, but in New Orleans, it’s the grandest free party on earth. This year, weather concerns have prompted changes to parade times. The Zulu parade will commence bright and early at 6:30 a.m., with Rex following at 9:30 a.m., each parading along shortened routes. Zulu will give a toast at Gallier Hall before wrapping up at Poydras and Loyola, while Rex, trailing behind Zulu, will kick off at the intersection of Napoleon Ave. and S Claiborne Ave. It will disband at St. Charles Avenue and Calliope Street, skipping the Gallier Hall toast.

The usual truck floats trailing Zulu and Rex have been postponed until Sunday, March 9, with the exact time yet to be announced. Meanwhile, the Krewe of Argus and the truck parades scheduled in Jefferson Parish have been cancelled. Over in Covington, the Krewe of Bogue Falaya will roll at 9:15 a.m., while the Krewe of Houmas in Houma will start their festivities at 11:30 a.m. The WDSU News team will provide continuous live coverage of these vibrant Fat Tuesday events, so don’t miss a moment by tuning into the live video player above.
