The New York Giants have secured a deal with Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson for one year, valued at up to $21 million, with $10.5 million guaranteed, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Tuesday. The 10-time Pro Bowl player had been in talks with the Giants, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers, but chose New York. It’s a city he cherishes, having emerged victorious in Super Bowl XLVIII at MetLife Stadium while playing for the Seattle Seahawks. Now, Russell is making his return to MetLife, this time as the expected starting quarterback for the Giants. With Wilson on board, the Giants are no longer a possible destination for Aaron Rodgers this season, according to Schefter.
Wilson’s arrival follows closely behind the Giants’ recent contract with Jameis Winston, joining Wilson and Tommy DeVito in their quarterback lineup. While Wilson’s signing marks a significant move, it doesn’t preclude the Giants from selecting a quarterback in the upcoming NFL draft, where they hold the No. 3 pick. At 36, Wilson had previously reached out to the Giants last offseason but ended up joining the Steelers. During his stint in Pittsburgh, he achieved a 6-5 record as a starter. Before Pittsburgh, he played for the Denver Broncos and dedicated a decade to the Seattle Seahawks.
