Before the Kansas City Chiefs face the Philadelphia Eagles at the Caesars Superdome for Super Bowl LIX on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, broadcasted by FOX, the NFL’s brightest stars gathered at the nearby Saenger Theatre on Thursday for the prestigious NFL Honors ceremony.
The event celebrated achievements such as Most Valuable Player, Defensive Rookie of the Year, and Coach of the Year among others.
Here’s who took home awards and why they were deserving:
Comeback Player of the Year - Joe Burrow (QB, Cincinnati Bengals)
After a season-ending injury in 2023, many speculated how Joe Burrow would perform upon his return. Proving doubters wrong, Burrow delivered the most outstanding season of his career, leading the league with 4,918 passing yards and 43 passing touchdowns.
Offensive Player of the Year - Saquon Barkley (RB, Philadelphia Eagles)
Barkley joined an elite group by becoming only the ninth player to rush over 2,000 yards in a season, narrowly missing Eric Dickerson’s longstanding record by just 100 yards.
Defensive Player of the Year - Pat Surtain II (CB, Denver Broncos)
In recognition of his stellar defensive capabilities, Surtain surrendered the least receiving yards in his position and led the league in interception return yards, earning him this top defensive accolade.
Offensive Rookie of the Year - Jayden Daniels (QB, Washington Commanders)
Daniels made an impressive impact in his rookie season, shattering records for rookie quarterbacks while guiding the Commanders to the NFC Championship Game.
Assistant Coach of the Year - Ben Johnson (Detroit Lions, Offensive Coordinator)
Johnson’s influence was crucial as he led the Lions to a franchise-record 15 wins and secured the NFC’s top seed, marking a milestone in the team’s history.
