As fans eagerly anticipate the airing of season three’s finale of The White Lotus, speculation is rife about the setting for season four. Our bet is on France. Here’s why it stands out.

In February, Francesca Orsi, HBO’s Executive Vice President, shared that location scouting was underway for the upcoming season. “I can’t really say where we’re going to land, but chances are somewhere in Europe,” she hinted. The show has a history of filming in idyllic Four Seasons Hotels: season one at Maui, Hawaii; season two in Taormina, Italy; and season three in Koh Samui, Thailand.

Following the formalization of the partnership between HBO and Four Seasons in October, it’s confirmed that future episodes will continue to unfold amidst the luxury of Four Seasons resorts. “Mike White and his team have created something truly special,” expressed Marc Speichert, Executive VP and Chief Commercial Officer at Four Seasons. “For many of our guests, particularly those passionate about pop culture and travel, The White Lotus inspires wanderlust.”

With this in mind, we can focus our guesses on European Four Seasons venues. Italy is off the table given it’s already been featured in a past season. Norway too, is a no-go since a lucrative filming incentive from the Norwegian Film Institute was turned down, plus there are no Four Seasons properties there.

Furthermore, any intentions of a ski resort setting have been dismissed. Executive producer Dave Bernard stated a skiing season is improbable as creator Mike White dislikes the cold. “I feel confident we will never do a season in the cold,” he remarked on The Bill Simmons Podcast, noting that White, a California native, isn’t keen on chilly climates.

This narrows it down to certain locations in alphabetical order:

  • Athens, Greece
  • Baku, Azerbaijan
  • Budapest, Hungary
  • French Riviera
  • Geneva, Switzerland
  • Hampshire, England
  • Istanbul, Turkey
  • Lisbon, Portugal
  • London, England
  • Madrid, Spain
  • Mallorca, Spain
  • Megève, France
  • Paris, France
  • Prague, Czech Republic

We’re excluding the major cities like London, Paris, Istanbul, Baku, Madrid, Lisbon, Geneva, and Prague, as the show has not yet been set in a bustling urban environment, which could complicate production.

This brings us to the frontrunners: (1) Four Seasons Astir Palace, a serene beach spot near Athens, Greece; (2) Grand-Hôtel du Cap-Ferrat in the luxurious French Riviera; (3) Four Seasons Hotel Hampshire for a touch of English countryside charm; (4) the gorgeous Four Seasons Resort Mallorca in Spain; and (5) Four Seasons Hotel Megève in the French Alps. Despite White’s reluctance for wintry settings, Megève offers year-round allure.

There’s always a chance the creative minds might opt for a destination outside Europe altogether. Nevertheless, if we had to choose, France stands as our top contender.

Rest assured, updates will follow as soon as new information emerges about where season four of The White Lotus will be filmed.
