Priyansh Arya showcased his exceptional batting prowess by scoring a sensational 22 runs off the 13th over bowled by Matheesha Pathirana, completing his century in style. Playing in just his fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) match, Priyansh, representing Punjab Kings (PBKS), achieved a rapid century in only 39 balls against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Tuesday. After an impressive IPL debut with a swift 47-run knock for PBKS, Priyansh was unstoppable against the former five-time champions. The left-hander hit a total of nine sixes and seven fours, dominating Pathirana with 22 runs in a single over to reach his century. He was eventually dismissed by Noor Ahmad for a commendable 103 off 42 balls, receiving a standing ovation from his teammates and the team’s co-owner as he made his way back to the dugout.

Priyansh’s century stands as the second quickest by an Indian in IPL history, just behind Yusuf Pathan’s 37-ball century for Rajasthan Royals against Mumbai Indians back in 2010.

Hailing from Delhi, Priyansh Arya caught the attention of Punjab Kings, who brought him on board for Rs 3.8 crore during the mega auction. His signing followed a standout performance in the inaugural Delhi Premier League (DPL) where he led the scoring charts, amassing 608 runs in ten innings for the South Delhi Superstarz.

Priyansh first drew significant attention during the DPL earlier this year when he blasted six consecutive sixes in an over for South Delhi Superstarz against North Delhi Strikers.

In the 2023-24 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Priyansh shone as Delhi’s top run-scorer, racking up 222 runs across seven innings. He maintained an impressive average of 31.71 with a striking strike rate of 166.91. Despite being in contention for the IPL 2024 auction, Priyansh surprisingly went unsold.

Reflecting on his experience of not being picked in the 2024 IPL auction, Priyansh shared, “Missing out on selection was disappointing. I had high hopes for the auctions this year, but I kept my focus on the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 matches. Being selected by Punjab Kings was a thrilling moment, though I couldn’t celebrate right away as I concentrated on the ongoing tournaments. A celebration is definitely in order soon.”
