Rayados clinched a 3-1 victory against Chivas on the Estadio BBVA’s turf. The win was secured after 45 minutes of gaining confidence with two goals. In the second half, they tactically surrendered possession to an opponent who self-destructed with a red card, leading to a decisive goal in the final moments of the game.
With Martín Demichelis’s position as head coach under intense scrutiny, Rayados entered the field with high energy. Following a couple of close calls where goalkeeper Raúl Rangel expertly intervened, Rayados opened the scoring in just the 9th minute. A rebound in the penalty area was seized by their forward, who then drove it into the net with a powerful left-footed shot, ending a long spell of one year, seven months, and 15 days without a goal in Liga MX.
After the opening goal, Chivas pushed forward, attempting to dominate possession and disrupt Rayados’ rhythm. However, their aggressive approach backfired as a counterattack culminated in the ball reaching Germán Berterame. He sprinted unchallenged down the right flank from the center circle to the penalty area, securing a 2-0 lead even amid a slight slip while shooting.
Despite a challenging first half, where Chivas relied on Rangel’s solid goalkeeping to prevent a larger deficit, the second half injected hope for them. Roberto Alvarado capitalized on a perfect through ball, skillfully evaded keeper Esteban Andrada, and tapped into the empty net to make it 2-1.
Nevertheless, Chivas soon fell back into familiar patterns from the Clausura 2025, when Luis Romo saw a direct red card for reportedly using inappropriate language toward the referee at the 80th minute. This left Chivas vulnerable, and Nelson Deossa exploited the confusion, breaking through three defenders and sealing the win with a shot that exploited a mishandle by Rangel.
This triumph marked a key step for Rayados in their quest for a playoff spot in the Clausura 2025, climbing to the eighth position with 22 points. Conversely, Chivas saw their playoff hopes dim as they remained stuck in twelfth place with 16 points.
