The world of animation and comedy lost a beloved icon with the passing of veteran voice actor and comedian George Lowe. Renowned as the voice behind ‘Space Ghost’ on ‘Space Ghost Coast to Coast’, Lowe passed away on Sunday, March 2, confirmed by his representative to Deadline. He was 67 years old.

Lowe’s close friend, Marvin “Marvelous Marvin” Boone, took to Facebook to honor his memory. “I am utterly heartbroken,” Boone expressed. “My Zobanian brother and closest friend for more than 40 years, George Lowe, has left us after battling a prolonged illness. It’s as if a piece of me departed with him. He was an incredibly gifted artist and voice actor, a warmly intelligent soul, and the funniest individual on the planet. I’ve borrowed jokes from him for years, and he’d pinched a few from me too. Beyond being the voice of Space Ghost, he contributed so much more. Pweeloto.”

Originating from Dunedin, Florida, Lowe embarked on his broadcasting journey at 15 with his first radio role at WWJB. Through the late 1980s to mid-1990s, Lowe tackled sporadic voice-over assignments for TBWS and Cartoon Network, eventually securing his hallmark role as Space Ghost in 1994 when the show ‘Space Ghost Coast to Coast’ launched on Cartoon Network. This unique take on talk shows, featuring live-action celebrities hosted by the Hanna-Barbera character Space Ghost, aired from 1994 to 1999 and later resumed from 2001 to 2004 on Adult Swim.

In addition to Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Lowe lent his voice to works like the spinoff ‘Cartoon Planet’, ‘Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theaters’, ‘The Brak Show’—where he regularly voiced “Dad”, and ‘Robot Chicken’, among many others.

Recently, Lowe reprised his iconic role, bringing Space Ghost to life once more in a February 2024 episode of Max’s ‘Jellystone’. His talents and warmth will be profoundly missed, but his legacy will continue to resonate with fans around the globe.
