Alijah Arenas, a prominent player from Chatsworth High School with a commitment to USC, suffered injuries in a car accident on Thursday. According to Shams Charania of ESPN, who initially reported the incident, Arenas has been hospitalized and is currently in a medically induced coma.

Alijah is the son of former NBA star Gilbert Arenas, who postponed a scheduled stream of his online show on Thursday due to the accident. A highly ranked recruit for the 2025 class, Alijah Arenas led Chatsworth High to the CIF Division II state championship game earlier this year in March. He finished his high school career as the all-time leading scorer in the City Section, amassing over 3,000 points, and also participated in the prestigious McDonald’s All-American game.

Alijah was anticipated to have a significant impact as a freshman at USC, having chosen the Trojans over powerhouse programs such as Arizona, Kansas, and Kentucky. Thursday was a day off for Chatsworth students in recognition of Armenian Genocide Memorial Day, a detail that adds context to the day’s events.

This story is still unfolding. Stay tuned for further updates.
