The eagerly awaited title for the next “Star Wars” movie slated for production was just unveiled at the Star Wars Celebration in Japan. Fans were thrilled when Ryan Gosling made a surprise appearance alongside the film’s director, Shawn Levy. Gosling is set to enter the iconic “Star Wars” universe under Levy’s direction, whose recent credits include helming the Marvel blockbuster “Deadpool & Wolverine.”

Levy made an unexpected entrance during “The Mandalorian and Grogu” panel, where he joined forces with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy and chief creative officer Dave Filoni to officially announce his involvement in the project. This film is one of several “Star Wars” theatrical ventures currently being developed, with other upcoming projects helmed by directors such as Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, James Mangold, Taika Waititi, and a new trilogy from Simon Kinberg. Levy’s film, titled “Star Wars: Starfighter,” will feature Gosling in a leading role, with filming set to commence this fall.

Set roughly five years after “Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker,” “Starfighter” promises to introduce a fresh character whose details were hinted at during Gosling’s on-stage reveal. Fans can expect “Star Wars: Starfighter” to light up theaters on Memorial Day in 2027.
