A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for Monroe County, covering most of Indiana as well as parts of Ohio, Kentucky, and Michigan, remaining in effect until 1 a.m. Thursday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) announced this alert shortly before 7 p.m. on Wednesday, in anticipation of an incoming thunderstorm set to affect Bloomington. Additionally, several counties in Western and Southern Indiana are under a tornado watch, with numerous locations across the state facing a severe thunderstorm warning.

The issuance of severe thunderstorm watches occurs when the NWS anticipates conditions conducive to the formation of severe thunderstorms in the monitored area. There is also a possibility of isolated hail.

Earlier, the NWS had issued a wind advisory for Monroe County valid until 9 p.m. Wednesday, predicting southern winds of 20-30 mph and gusts reaching up to 45 mph. The advisory noted that even higher gusts could occur. Motorists, particularly those driving larger vehicles, were advised to exercise caution.
