As of 5:53 a.m., a severe thunderstorm warning is active until 6:30 a.m. for southeastern Grayson and Fannin counties. A severe thunderstorm, aligning from near Bells to Tom Bean, is progressing toward the Whitewright area at 60 mph. These intense storms are expected near Valley Lake, Whitewright, Savoy, and Bells around 5:55 a.m., reaching Randolph, Ector, Bonham, and Ravenna by 6:00 a.m. Bonham State Park and Lake Bonham are projected to be affected by 6:05 a.m., Dodd City at 6:10 a.m., with Coffee Mill Lake around 6:15 a.m., and Honey Grove and Crockett Lake by 6:20 a.m.

At 5:49 a.m., another severe thunderstorm warning persists until 6:30 a.m. for Rockwall, Western Hunt, Kaufman, Collin, and Dallas counties. Severe thunderstorms were tracked from Celina to Lowry Crossing to Mesquite and Ferris, moving eastward at 60 mph, delivering widespread winds gusting at 75 mph.

A severe thunderstorm warning was also issued at 5:41 a.m. for Eastern Grayson County and Fannin County until 6:30 a.m. This involved storms moving at 60 mph from Randell Lake to Sherman to Van Alstyne, and expected to impact Valley Lake, Whitewright, Savoy, and Bells around 5:55 a.m., Randolph, Ector, Bonham, and Ravenna at around 6:00 a.m., and reaching Bonham State Park and Lake Bonham by 6:05 a.m., Dodd City at 6:10 a.m., Coffee Mill Lake approximately at 6:15 a.m., with expectations for Honey Grove and Crockett Lake by 6:20 a.m.

The National Weather Service in Fort Worth issued another warning at 5:26 a.m. for Rockwall, Western Hunt, Kaufman, Eastern Denton, Collin, and Dallas counties until 6:30 a.m. Severe thunderstorms, moving at 60 mph, were tracked from Pilot Point to Carrollton to Cedar Hill, generating wind gusts between 60 to 70 mph.

High Wind Reports

At 5:30 a.m., DFW Airport recorded a wind gust reaching 74 mph with the line of storms now advancing into Dallas and Collin counties. These harsh winds, comparable to those seen in hurricanes, are predicted to cause widespread power failures and toppled trees.

At 5:45 a.m., Dallas Love Field experienced a wind gust of 78 mph.

Why are weather sirens going off?

FOX 4 Meteorologist Evan Andrews explains that weather sirens are activated when wind speeds hit or exceed 70 mph. This is currently the case in certain areas.
