A significant threat of severe thunderstorms looms from the Midwest and South all the way to the East Coast this Sunday and Monday.

Expect these widespread storms to take shape Sunday afternoon, persisting through the night, stretching from eastern Texas to the southern Great Lakes, and affecting areas such as the Mississippi, Ohio, and Tennessee valleys.

According to the Storm Prediction Center of the NOAA, these storms could bring dangerous elements like very large hail, damaging winds, and strong tornadoes (causing EF2 or greater damage), particularly in the areas highlighted in red on the map below.

Initially, a few supercells or clusters of thunderstorms might form on Sunday afternoon, posing risks of large hail and a couple of tornadoes. These will eventually evolve into a line of thunderstorms by late Sunday evening, continuing into early Monday morning.

The severe weather is expected to first erupt on the western edges of the threat area, subsequently moving eastward from there.
