Sovereignty Triumphs in Thrilling Kentucky Derby Finish

Sovereignty surged past Journalism on a muddy track to claim victory in the 151st Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs on Saturday. Racing under jockey Junio Alvarado, Sovereignty battled head-to-head with Journalism, ridden by Umberto Rispoli, in a thrilling final stretch. The two colts were neck and neck in the last furlong before Sovereignty pushed ahead to secure the win for trainer Bill Mott. Despite Journalism being the 7-2 favorite among 19 three-year-old contenders, Sovereignty emerged victorious. Intermittent rain showers turned the track into a challenging mud field, marking the first Derby held under such conditions since 2019, when Country House won after a disqualification.
